Get Your Guns Out Of My Fantasy

Firstly –

Real Life used Overtime…

It’s SUPER EFFECTIVE!

Tigerfeet fainted.

Yeah, it’s like that. So not much blogging going on, but I did find something interesting. One of the themes I hear when people complain about Guild Wars 2 is the inclusion of rifles and pistols. This is high fantasy, middle ages stuff, there’s no room for guns here!

Or is there?

I urge you all to take a listen to this podcast: The Tech of 1510

As the title states, the hosts of Tech Stuff are covering the technology of 1510. In 1510 England is still in their high middle ages while parts of the rest of the world are just getting into their renaissance.

Some specific points I’d like to make as they’re mentioned in this podcast:

  • Guns are pretty new
  • Knights still wear plate armor against guns due to decreased bullet velocity at range.
  • The printing press has existed for a while, moveable type is new though!
  • DaVinci has designed a tank.

In other news, Still working on some new fanart. I’m really excited about this piece too. Here’s a little teaser, my references!

  1. I can only guess sylvari necromancer… Or some unfortunate minion was summoned from under a tree and now walks around balancing a tree on it’s skull

      Maaaaaaaaaybe >_>

  2. personally i think you’re in the wrong genre if you can’t use your imagination enough to justify guns…

they were in use throughout the 1400s too, its just around 1510 they invented a spark to ignite the gunpowder instead of lit wicks like cannons.

      Just for the record, I’m pro-gun 😉 WTB Pistol + Rapier Mesmer-Pirate!

      • oh i didn’t mean you, i just meant, you’re as in anyone who’s against guns. sorry.

  3. It’s amazing how people can be concerned about firearms appearing in the middle ages (where they naturally belong), yet are completely unperturbed by the amount of magic thrown around by their mages.

Maybe you should prod them Tiger, remind them it isn’t a documentary 🙂

I think it’s all about different flavors (to quote you). Some people just don’t enjoy guns and choose to project that onto their game of choice.

Or they’re afraid of GW2 turning into WoW.
