Grace And Poise And All That Jazz

Hey everybody!  I haven’t forgotten I promise!  Creating artwork and really concentrating takes a lot more time than I had anticipated, that’s all.  Once I’m finished with the character customization shot and put up the master list I’ll share with you all what I’ve been up to.

And so, without further ado may I present to you the lovely human ladies of Guild Wars 2!  Which one is your favorite?  Personally I like the minimal makeup on #15 but I like the shape and the attitude of #10 better.

Like A Peacock

After a longer wait than I had expected, I’m back from vacation and back to making character customization charts!  Thank you to everyone who hung in there for me, I definitely needed the break.

Without further ado, here are the male human hair options as shown at Gamescom 2011.

Hey Good Lookin’ Whatcha Got Cookin’?

Fair warning, lady humans have a large amount of facial options.  The men… not so much.  They both have the same number of hairstyles, 22.  So, to save space and sanity I bundled the male faces with the beard options.  Even so, the pickings seem a little slim to me given the large devotion the Guild Wars 2 Community seems to have towards beards, so perhaps there are more in the works.

Like always, keep in mind these are all the options available as of Gamescom 2011.

Also, by the time you read this, I’ll be on my way to Disney World!  My dad affectionally calls it “feeding the rat”.

Maybe She’s Born With It

First off I’d like to say that Hunter, from HuntersInsight.com has put up a great post that includes some nice videos on character customization.  These charts are made from off-screen photos taken by the lovely and talented Tasha Darke.  The quality isn’t what you’d get from in-game screenshots and of course there’s no animation.  Still, I believe there’s value in these to have a static reference that allows one to see everything at a glance.

I urge you to check out the videos because ArenaNet really has top-notch animators and seeing these designs in motion is absolutely fantastic.  When I’ve posted charts for everything I’ll make a compilation post and archive it in my guides section on the top right.

And so, without further ado, I present to you the carefully sculpted coifs you can sport on your human female.  There are 22 alltogether, including a bald option which isn’t pictured.

This Is How They Show They Care

Felt like doing some speedpainting tonight, so I turned to twitter for inspiration.  The ever-traitor-loving Kvand suggested an epic battle between Logan and Rytlock.  How could I say no?  This one took about 45 minutes.

Who's winning? I'll let you decide.

Of Mantles And Mursaat

A couple of weeks ago I put together an audio segment for Relics of Orr.  Dispatches from the Priory is meant to be a place for me to tell small lore stories while acting in character.

In the first episode I covered the history of the charr in general, and the history of the Khan-Ur in specific.  For some reason I imagine my charr character speaking in a russian accent.  I don’t think I was entirely successful, but so far I’ve only heard complimentary feedback about the segment.

This week’s Dispatches from the Priory I wanted to cover something in human history.  I chose the story of the White Mantle, and the ascention of Queen Salma to her rightful throne.

To tell this story I enlisted the aid of a farmer’s daughter in Shaemoor.  She and her little brother, Liam, are taking their father’s melons to market and she’s doing what big sisters do best: Scaring the whey out of her little brother with grisly tales of White Mantle atrocities.

In the middle of writing my script, however, I found myself stuck.  The persona I had created existed at or just before the events that will be unfolding in Guild Wars 2.  I didn’t know if the White Mantle still existed, if there were reformed sects that held a respected place in Krytan society, or even if a farmer’s daughter, no matter her education, would even know about them.

So I went and asked ArenaNet.  Regina Buenaobra kindly gave me permission to publish the answers to the questions that I asked, and I relay them to you here.

My questions:

– Do the White Mantle still exist?
– Do they exist in such a way that a farmer’s daughter would know about them?
— Would she hear rumors?
— What if she was getting a good education in Divinity’s Reach?
– Is Shaemoor actually close enough to Divinity’s Reach that farmers would take their produce there for market? If not, what is the closest farming community?
– How does human history remember the White Mantle?

ArenaNet’s response:

I had a chat with our lore specialists, Jeff and Ree, and this is what they had to say:

The White Mantle are considered a part of Kryta’s past. They are sometimes used as boogey-men to scare small children, but they are not considered part of Kryta’s present or future.

To address your specific questions:

The White Mantle, as was noted above, is not a part of Kryta in Guild Wars 2, so a farmer’s daughter would not know about them or hear rumors about them in present day Kryta, even if she was getting a good education in Divinity’s Reach. If she was educated, she would know history about the White Mantle, and about when the White Mantle was in charge of Kryta, before Queen Salma. Human history remembers the White Mantle as a treasonous bunch of fanatics that held Kryta hostage to their dark cultist faith. Queen Salma and a group of human heroes liberated Kryta and brought it back to the worship of the Six Gods. Yay, Salma, for destroying this evil cult forever!

Shaemoore is totally a place where they would sell their produce, if they didn’t want to take it to the city itself.

These questions (and their answers) aren’t earth-shattering things, but I hope any lore buffs like myself that lurk among my audience will enjoy this small peek into the more mundane aspects of Krytan life.

You’re HOW Tall?

That tall

I was pondering drawing another bit of fanart when I found myself running up against a problem. Exactly how large is an Asura in relation to a Charr? Would a Charr find an Asura one bite or two? Maybe even three? I did not know!

I have to give props to Shaun for maintaining his image blog Guild Wars 2 Screenshots. Without it this would not have been possible. Having a bunch of screenshots in one place is awesome and he’s even got a pretty good filing system.

As for my fanart, I think my plate will be just the right size. >:3

Oh, I want to mention that this is just my best guess based on the height of Zojja, Caithe, Logan, Eir, and Rytlock. I’ve got my fingers crossed that ArenaNet comes out with their own height chart so I can see how close I got.
