An Actual Project? Hold Onto Your Fur!

My good buddy Brajana told me a week or so ago that she’d been tapped by the folks over at World of Matticus to be part of a new addon blog.

After I got over my initial bout of jealousy and realised that no, I don’t have the time or expertise to devote to any kind of project like that, I expressed my very sincere congratulations and sat back to eagerly await the blog’s debut.

At first blush, NoStockUi looks like it’s shaping up to be a wonderful resource. I’ve already learned of a couple new addons I might like to try out and my resolve to run addon-light is being tested to its limit.

Then I ran into Matticus’s HUD post.

I am very dissapointed. Really, I think you could have done much better sir. This post amouts to little more than posting links to 4 different HUD systems and saying “These are HUDs, they do stuff”.

Well, it’s ok, I forgive you. I realise that launching a new site is difficult work, made even more difficult by expectations of content out of the gate.

So, I’ve whined to Brajana about it, and, as whining without action is just obnoxious, I’m going to put my money where my mouth is and attempt a 4-part analysis of the different HUD displays you mentioned in that post.

I’m no expert, and code scares me. I doubt I would have anything to add to your project in the long-run, but I do love my HUD mods something awful and I’ve used all 4 of those mentioned in the past. This is a project I believe I can complete in a thorough and aesthetically pleasing manner.

Ideally, it should take about a month. I will try to spend a week with each HUD mod listed and post the results on the weekend.

Wish me luck!

Enhanced Claws

I’ve discovered something interesting that, in retrospect, really should have been obvious from the beginning.

Druids love Shamans, and vis a versa.

It’s really quite obvious why. Both classes can choose to spec either healer, ranged, or melee DPS. The most glaring difference is that Druids can tank. Properly specced and geared I think a Shaman would likely be able to tank a regular instance as well, and maybe even a heroic.

So first of all, my favorite reason for playing a Druid, the versatility and ability to do whatever I want within one class, is echoed in our totem-tossing brethren.

But what about Paladins? Paladins can heal, melee DPS, or tank. But Paladins have a very different flavor from both Druids and Shamans. The former is very much a warrior for the ‘light’, a crusader, and a defender of organized religion. The Shaman and Druid, however, take their role and step back

A Shaman’s role is as a spiritual leader, yes, but instead of buying into righteous fervor they espouse communing with the spirits and ancestors, encourage their charges to ask their own questions, and find their own way, only offering guidance when it is sought.

Druids are similar. While not usually cultural leaders, the druids are none-the-less in control of their surroundings. They council one-ness with nature and balance in all things, preferring only to act when a situation has gone so far ut of hand that it won’t be resolved naturally.

While flexibility in a single class is the same, I think it’s this flavor that sets Druids and Shamans apart from Paladins, and is part of the root of why I see so many Druids with Shaman alts, and so many Shamans dabbling with their toes in fur (or bark, or feathers).

My main alt is a Shaman. She’s level 53 now and all I can think of is: Rainseeker? Where have you been all my life?

I was nominated for the Honest Scrap Award by Three Separate Bloggers!

Here’s the rules:

oh my GOD! I had this post all FREAKING written up and wordpress SIGNED ME OUT AND I LOST IT ALL!!!!!! >:C I am SO PISSED.

So I’m not going to follow the rules, I’ll just post 10 honest things about myself and suffice to say all the blogs over THERE ->>> are fraking awesome.

  1. I am really pissed right now, my original ten things were great.
  2. I don’t even want to do this anymore because I had it all written out and now it’s gone.
  3. I wrote something about loosing my pen and then my plant making off with it that was all kinds of clever but WordPress ate it.
  4. Yes I’m still whining.
  5. Pandora still rocks
  6. I love totems
  7. Something deranged about Pungent Seal Whey and enslaved Druids.
  8. I have a lot of books, more than our local library. The original version of this was much wittier, I promise.
  9. I’m still pissed.
  10. I love my Mr Tigerfeet.

Now, If I can get over being pissed I’ll try to come back to this and attempt to re-create my original witiness.

Sorry for the cop-out 😦

WOW! Ok, the BACK button is my new favorite thing EVAR! Here’s the original post in all of its glory 😀

See that right there? Yeah, my mood just changed THAT fast. See number 10 above, he has to put up with me.

Here’s the rules:

  1. When accepting this auspicious award, you must write a post bragging about it, including the name of the misguided soul who thinks you deserve such acclaim, and link back to the said person so everyone knows she/he is real.
  2. Choose a minimum of seven (7) blogs that you find brilliant in content or design. Or improvise by including bloggers who have no idea who you are because you don’t have seven friends. Show the seven random victims’ names and links and leave a harassing comment informing them that they were prized with Honest Weblog. Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.
  3. List at least ten (10) honest things about yourself. Then pass it on!

And so, in true SAC bas-akward style, here’s startin’ with number 3!

  1. I love attention, but often find myself confused and lost about what to do or how to act once I get said attention.
  2. I’m really looking forward to payday on Friday because Mr Tigerfeet and I will be purchasing season 5 of DBZ. (Will Vegeta ever stop being an ass to his son? When is the next World Martial Arts Tournament? When does Gohan learn to go Supersaiyan? Nailbiting suspense!)
  3. On the WoW-side of things, my new-found love of totems borders on the inappropriate.
  4. I JUST went to the supply cabinet for a new pen and I can’t for the life of me remember where I put it.
  5. Ok, I found the pen, apparently my plant tried to make off with it.
  6. I sometimes often panic, though never during things like tornadoes.
  7. I have more books in my personal library than our town has in its. This both says that I live in a REALLY fraking small town and that I have an ass-ton of books.
  8. I’m also paranoid.
  9. I love dandelions, especially when pan-fried in a garlic batter.
  10. I never went to Howling Fjord and never saw the seals there. As such, during my first five levels into Northrend I was convinced that Pungent Seal Whey was actually the product of enslaved Druids forced into seal form and milked daily by the nefarious Tuskarr.

Well THAT was fun. Now you all know how deranged I really am 😀

Shhhh, crazy people have more fun!

Anyhoo, now I have to pick seven blogs that I think are absolutely brilliant. Don’t feel obligated to carry this on (especially since I’ll be giving some tag-backs), but I’m all for spreading the love, and those who tagged me had such wonderful things to say!

  1. Binary Colors – I’ve got a lot of respect for someone who can tell it like it is and is unafraid to be harsh when need-be. Brutal Honesty ftw.
  2. Artisan Level – she totally tagged me, but I love her blog too. It’s probably something to do with my never-realised childhood dream of becoming a scientist, but she’s got a lot of awesome articles fo-sho’!
  3. Fel Fire – she ALSO tagged me for this, and I only found her blog after she tagged me but I’ve been loving it something awful. Witty, clever and all that jazz.
  4. The Twisted Nether Blogcast – I love listening to it during work, I love the little boss voice-overs in there, and I yearn for a chance to natter on about stupid stuff, which is probably why it’s best that I don’t.
  5. Holy Deug – I’ve got a thing for enjoying self-important blogs that take a tongue-in-cheek attitude towards their own importance. He’s already gotten this award but that doesn’t mean I can’t say I like him too!
  6. Leafshine : Lust for Flower – Hai Thar Buddeh from across the pond! He won’t tell you how to gem your new tier, or remind you that if you’re not using Barkskin you’re doin’ it wrong, or much of anything really in the guide/theorycrafting department. What he will give you are short little snippets of what he’s up to as an extreme casual and remind all of us that yes, there is life outside of WoW and there’s nothing wrong with taking time to enjoy it.
  7. Etaiu’s Leatherbelly Tank Blog – Very new blog, and as it’s jam-packed with infoz and theorycrafting it tends to be a little dry. In fact Mr Tigerfeet complained at length when I was watching his intro to bear tanking video (apparently he was getting flash-backs from junior high science class) But that’s what is beautiful about it. He takes a very bare-bones approach, giving you the info that you need in a very easy and accessible manner. Plus, who can’t love the Flying Bear Technique?

Once I got rolling 10 honest things about myself just weren’t enough, just as 7 bloggers that I think are brilliant aren’t enough. My daddy always told me to surround myself with people that I look up to, and that by association I will become more like I want to be.

It’s the same for the blogs I read. They’re all wonderful in their own ways and it’s nigh impossible to pick only seven.

I’m Actually Having A Very Productive Weekend

I arted! I made this!

See? I can TOO draw!

That’s right tiger, keep telling yourself that, maybe if enough people agree with you you’ll begin to agree with them.

Then you’ll get such an insufferable arteeeeest ego that your head won’t fit through doors, you’ll disgust the paint off the walls, and not even the cats will be able to stand you.

Better that you keep subtly hinting about your mystical nothing-to-do-with-WoW-webcomic.

And now I shall stop speaking of myself in the third person and promise you all that, come Monday, we will return to our regularly scheduled insanity. This week’s break has been great 🙂 Thanks for your patience.

PS – his name is Virgil, and he’s about to hit his head very, very hard.

PSS – he was supposed to be looking awesome and bad-ass, instead I tossed him off a cliff.

PSSS – PNG files are the SEX.

Turns out it -was- turning over, but not all the cylinders were firing and so the thing would promptly die.

I still have no lunch and my fingernail started hurting suddenly VERY badly, but knowing that I can now get home has been a wonderful boon to my day.

Oh, and I also made a sticker. Over thatta way ->
